Corporate Donor Recognition Display Reflects Innovation at Gaston College’s Kimbrell Fiber Innovation Center
A corporate donor recognition display should do more than recognize generosity, it should reflect the mission, innovation, and identity of the organization it represents. When Gaston College opened the Kimbrell Fiber Innovation Center, it wanted a custom donor recognition display that honored the corporate partners who helped fund the new research facility while capturing the cutting-edge work happening inside its walls.
The Kimbrell Fiber Innovation Center is dedicated to advancing industrial fiber research, education, and collaboration with industry leaders. The facility supports innovation in materials used in countless everyday products, including performance apparel, automotive interiors, medical textiles, filtration systems, tires, and many other fiber-based technologies. Following the facility’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, the center officially opened its doors to support the next generation of fiber innovation and industry partnerships. As a hub for research and collaboration, the center needed a donor recognition display that celebrated both its corporate supporters and its commitment to innovation.

A Corporate Donor Recognition Display Designed for Innovation
Located on a large feature wall visible through an expansive glass opening from the building’s main lobby, the donor recognition display would immediately become a focal point for visitors entering the facility. The challenge was creating a display that felt as advanced as the research happening inside the building while complementing the center’s modern architecture.
The Fiber Innovation Center is defined by clean lines, exposed concrete, metal accents, expansive glass, and a sophisticated palette of blacks and grays. Rather than competing with the architecture, the donor recognition display needed to become an extension of it.
At the same time, the display needed to communicate the very purpose of the building – fiber innovation.
Weaving the Story of Fiber Technology into the Design
During the design process, our creative team explored how the concept of industrial fibers could become the visual foundation of the display. Instead of relying solely on traditional donor plaques or dimensional elements, we developed a custom graphic composition inspired by the movement, texture, and interconnected nature of woven fibers.
The imagery reinforces the research taking place within the facility while adding movement and depth to the long hallway. The design creates visual interest from both nearby and from the lobby, where the display is framed by the large interior glass opening.
Every design decision was made to support the architecture of the building while keeping the focus where it belongs – on the organizations whose generosity made the project possible.

Corporate Donors Remain the Center of Attention
To achieve this balance, Partners In Recognition incorporated our ClearTech donor recognition solution.
Unlike traditional donor walls, the ClearTech system allows a continuous background image to remain visible behind each donor name. Individual acrylic nameplates appear to float over the custom artwork, preserving the integrity of the graphic while ensuring each corporate donor receives clear, prominent recognition.
The system also provides the flexibility Gaston College needs for the future. As additional companies invest in the Fiber Innovation Center, donor names can be added or updated without disrupting the overall design, allowing the display to evolve alongside the center’s continued growth and industry partnerships.

A Lasting Tribute to Partnership and Innovation
The completed donor recognition display serves as more than a list of contributors. It tells the story of innovation, collaboration, and investment that helped establish one of the region’s premier fiber research facilities.
By blending the building’s contemporary architecture with imagery inspired by industrial fiber technology, the display creates a memorable experience for visitors while honoring the corporate partners who believed in the center’s vision from the very beginning.
At Partners In Recognition, we believe every corporate donor recognition display should do more than acknowledge generosity. It should become part of the story an organization wants to tell. The Kimbrell Fiber Innovation Center is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can celebrate both the mission of an organization and the donors who help make that mission possible.
