Honoring Major Donors
For more than two decades, the generosity of donors has remained at the foundation of Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital’s ability to serve the Avery County community. To celebrate the individuals and organizations who made the original building campaign possible, Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital partnered with Partners In Recognition to create a hospital legacy donor recognition display that preserves the history and impact of those transformational gifts.
A Hospital Built by Community Support
Originally built in 1999 entirely through private donations, Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital stands as a remarkable example of community philanthropy. Today, the hospital continues to provide essential healthcare services, including a full-service emergency department, imaging services, laboratory services, outpatient behavioral health, and physical and occupational therapies through The Rehabilitation Center.
Conveniently located in Linville, the heart of Avery County, the hospital remains committed to providing high-quality care close to home. Additionally, as a Critical Access Hospital, Cannon Memorial Hospital continues to ensure long-term access to essential healthcare services for the surrounding community.
Bringing Donor Recognition Together
Over the years, construction and renovation projects caused portions of the hospital’s existing donor recognition to become spread throughout the facility. As a result, hospital leadership recognized the importance of creating a centralized location where these significant contributions could once again be celebrated.
Carmen Lacey, President and Director of Patient Care at Cannon Memorial Hospital, explained:
“Construction projects had scattered some donor recognition signage, and we felt that it was important to capture the names of our major contributors in a centralized area. We are very appreciative of all who have supported, and continue to support, healthcare in Avery County.”
The new display creates a dedicated place for patients, visitors, and staff to reflect on the generosity that helped make the hospital a reality. Likewise, it preserves the legacy of the individuals and organizations whose support established the foundation for healthcare in Avery County.
A Design Rooted in the Avery County Landscape
To create a meaningful and lasting tribute, Partners In Recognition designed a permanent donor display that reflects both the natural beauty of Avery County and the generosity that helped bring Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital to life. The display incorporates warm wood grain, gold-toned laminate accents, and a subtle mountain landscape that pays tribute to the region surrounding the hospital.
The display utilizes the Permanent System, making it an ideal solution for a completed campaign where donor names will remain unchanged. The layered mountain imagery stretches across the display and creates a visual connection between each donor panel. Meanwhile, the combination of natural textures, earth-toned colors, and timeless materials creates a welcoming feature that complements the hospital environment.
Because the display is a permanent installation, it preserves the history of the original building campaign for generations to come. Through thoughtful design and regional inspiration, the display serves as a lasting reminder of a community coming together to create quality healthcare for Avery County.
Preserving a Legacy of Generosity
Since opening its doors in 1999, Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital has continued to evolve alongside the needs of the community. However, the generosity of the original donors remains an essential part of the hospital’s story.
The completed donor recognition display ensures that the individuals and organizations who helped establish Cannon Memorial Hospital will continue to be honored for generations. Furthermore, the combination of permanent materials, regional inspiration, and thoughtful design creates a lasting tribute to the generosity that continues to impact Avery County.
