School Donor Walls: Baylor School’s Donor Recognition Display for Howalt Hall

Our recent school donor wall project with Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, exemplifies just that. Tasked with designing an interior donor recognition display for their newly dedicated Howalt Hall dormitory, this project reflects not only our design capabilities but also our deep respect for those who help make progress possible.
A New Era of Boarding at Baylor School
Howalt Hall, named and dedicated in 2023, is a major addition to Baylor School’s residential life program. Its creation increases dormitory capacity while enhancing the student experience.
When Baylor School approached us about creating a permanent donor recognition display, they emphasized the importance of a design that felt light, open, and airy. As a result, our team developed a concept that would honor donors while complementing the building’s modern architecture.
The location for the display, a high-traffic vestibule with abundant natural and overhead light, called for materials and finishes that would stand the test of time. From the beginning, glass, frosted acrylic, and stainless steel framing guided our approach.
Designing School Donor Walls with Elevated Simplicity
To match Baylor School’s clean and contemporary aesthetic, we proposed aluminum framing that interacts beautifully with both light and shadow. Within that frame, three frosted acrylic panels incorporate the school’s colors across the top and bottom, creating visual continuity and reinforcing Baylor’s brand identity.
Each panel serves a distinct purpose:
• The Left Panel: Features Baylor School branding and a selected quote from the donor. The layout was carefully designed to create an emotional connection and engage visitors.
• The Center Panel: Acts as the title panel, sharing the story behind the project while reinforcing Baylor’s identity through the use of the school’s logo and colors.
• The Right Panel: Contains the donor listing, paying tribute to the many individuals whose generosity helped make Howalt Hall possible.
We selected brushed aluminum laminates and impressionist acrylic finishes to complement the building’s natural lighting while providing long-term durability. These materials help create a school donor wall that is both elegant and enduring.
